Background Statement

Across our nation first responder agencies are stretched dangerously thin. The difficult, demanding, and dangerous work they do is causing burnout at a record pace.

The ranch was created by Kathryn Severns Avery after her husband, Chris, was killed in 2020 by robbery suspects fleeing from Lakewood police. Both Kathryn and Chris are/were civilians. Before that day, she knew nothing about the world of first responders.

She used her own funds to purchase and renovate a 40-acre ranch where dispatch, fire/EMS, law enforcement officers (including corrections officers and park rangers), emergency department and ICU personnel, victims' advocates, members of the judiciary, and their families can come for a day visit, or an overnight stay.

This serene setting provides a place for reflection, relaxation, and recreation and a place to care for those who care for us. Restoration Ranch Colorado's programs serve our stakeholder groups in innovative and meaningful ways.
