Mission
Rainbow Broomfield’s mission is to uplift, celebrate, and empower Broomfield's LGBTQIA+ community by organizing educational, inclusive, and sustainable events that foster connection and visibility. Through the annual Broomfield Pride event, we aim to create a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for LGBTQIA+ residents, strengthen community ties, and contribute to a more equitable and inclusive city.
Background Statement
The idea for Broomfield Pride emerged from conversations among local LGBTQIA+ residents who often had to travel to Denver or Boulder for community events. In response to the lack of local events for Broomfield’s LGBTQIA+ community, Rainbow Broomfield was founded in 2021 to create a safe and inclusive space to celebrate Pride Month and the diverse experiences of LGBTQIA+ people.
The first Broomfield Pride event, held in June 2021, was a grassroots success with 11 local organizations and a handful of community groups participating. As the event continued to grow, Rainbow Broomfield transitioned into a fully independent nonprofit organization in 2023 to ensure the long-term sustainability and expansion of Broomfield Pride.
Today, the event has evolved into a vital community celebration, with continued growth in both attendance and participation, helping to fill the gap for LGBTQIA+ residents seeking connection and recognition in Broomfield.
