Background Statement
Basketball Saved My Life. Now I'm Giving Other Kids the Same Chance.
Founder Stephen Beseda grew up in a financially struggling family where basketball became his ticket out. He earned a college scholarship, graduated with a degree in exercise science, and built successful athletic businesses in Southern California.
But he never forgot where he came from.
In 2010, Stephen founded Rain Basketball as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with an unusual approach: he self-funded scholarships from his business profits. No bureaucracy, just a mission-driven commitment to give other kids the same shot he got.
Over 15 years, Rain Basketball has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into kids others overlooked. We now operate three regional chapters (Denver, Orange County, and Inland Empire) with professional nonprofit governance, an active Board of Directors, and measurable student outcomes tracking.
The Problem We Solve:
Thousands of talented young athletes face impossible odds: economic hardship, dangerous neighborhoods, and lack of positive role models. Without access to the $3,000 annual cost of competitive programs, these athletes never get their shot at college scholarships.
Our Solution:
We provide full scholarships covering coaching, tournaments, travel, equipment, and college placement support. In return, we ask scholarship recipients to maintain good grades, stay out of trouble, and serve their community.
The Results:
- 90% college scholarship rate for top-tier players
- $150,000+ invested annually in 150+ families
- 8,000+ students served since 2010
- 95% of every dollar goes directly to programs (vs. 60-75% industry average)
When you support Rain Basketball, you're joining a proven program that develops champions while opening doors for the next generation of leaders.
