Rocky Mountain Community Land Trust

A nonprofit organization

The RMCLT mission is to provide quality, affordable housing for low-income families in El Paso County and the City of Colorado Springs. While our core mission is affordable ownership, we also collaborate with other non-profits in transitional housing and affordable rentals.

Testimonials

"My family of 6 spent the past 5 years living in a crowded 3 bedroom apartment in an unsafe part of town. For $2 more per month, I now own a home of my own! We have a backyard for our vegetable garden and a garage so I don't shovel snow off my car in the winter. My teen daughters have a bathroom of their own, and my son can practice with his band in the garage. I feel good about myself, knowing that I am a homeowner. It's an awesome program.
RMCLT has given me all the tools I need to be a successful homeowner, and they remain a support after purchase. Whenever I have a question about homeownership I can call them. It's nice knowing there is a support system out there." ~Homeowners since April 2011

"Being a single, semi-retired woman on a limited income, I never expected my dream of becoming a homeowner to come true. I figured that I would be renting the rest of my life. When the rent on my apartment went up over $550 a month, I knew that I had to move. Then I heard about the Rocky Mountain Community Land Trust.

Not only was I able to buy a home, but I was also able to choose a home that fit my needs. I now own a two-bedroom home on the west side of Colorado Springs with gorgeous views of the mountains. With the Land Trust's help, my mortgage is affordable even on my fixed income. It makes me feel good knowing that I am not paying someone else for rent; I am building equity for myself and for my family."

Mission

The Rocky Mountain Community Land Trust (RMCLT) was created in 1996 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission of providing quality, affordable housing for low-income families in El Paso County and the City of Colorado Springs. Our goal is to build a strong community... one home... one neighborhood at a time. While our core mission is affordable home ownership, we also collaborate with other non-profit organizations to address housing needs across the community, such as transitional housing and affordable rentals. RMCLT became a HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency in 2016.

Background Statement

The Rocky Mountain Community Land Trust (RMCLT), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, was created in 1996 during an affordable housing strategic planning retreat initiated by the Comprehensive Homeless Assistance Providers (CHAP). These citizens wanted to create a mechanism to preserve long-term affordability for housing in El Paso County and the City of Colorado Springs.

RMCLT was the City's third Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO). For the first year and one-half, RMCLT operated with all volunteers. The Board of Directors was elected and the Articles of Incorporation, By-Laws, and the ground lease were developed.
