"Authentic leadership is not about power—it is about service. It is about pouring ourselves into others, sharing knowledge, and creating opportunities for those who come after us to reach their highest potential. I know firsthand that progress is stalled when doors are closed. My journey was far from easy—statistically, the odds were stacked against me, predicting that I would fail. Yet, here I stand—more refined, confident, and determined than ever to drive lasting, universal change. That is why I lead with transparency, collaboration, and the belief that withholding the keys to success only hinders the collective growth of our communities."
— Dr. Shakari Hood (Executive Director)

Our Story: Born from Disruption, Built for Youth Power
In 2006, the sudden closure of Manual High School uprooted the education and futures of hundreds of Black and Brown students—young people who had already been historically underserved by Denver Public Schools.
In response, two Manual alumni came together to ensure that youth would never again be left out of the decisions that impact their lives. Project VOYCE was born with a clear motto: "Nothing about us, without us."
Today, when young people from historically oppressed communities seek truth, power, and liberation—they find their way to Project VOYCE. We co-create transformative learning spaces with youth, where they critically examine power, challenge injustice, and gain the knowledge and tools to lead systemic change. We don't just teach leadership—we foster deep confidence, community, and the courage to see the world clearly and reimagine what’s possible.
Before youth can dismantle systems of oppression, they must understand how those systems were built—how they function, and how we are conditioned to sustain them. We don’t aim to “fix” systems that are working exactly as designed. We prepare youth to imagine and build something better.
When the emerging majority leads with clarity, care, and vision, they don’t just challenge the status quo—they transform it.
