Platte Valley Players grew out of an endeavor by Brighton community members to bring the performing arts to Brighton. and has been producing shows since 2003. PVP is devoted to presenting stories that highlight our common humanity to entertain and challenge your mind and spirit.
Since our inception, PVP has presented over 50 theatre productions including plays, musicals, children's theatre, readers theatre workshops, concerts and cabarets. Additionally, PVP is a national, regional and local award-winning community theatre.
Since 2010, PVP has made their artistic home at the Brighton Armory Performing Arts Center and have been engaging with young performers in their children's theatre programs and presenting socially and historically relevant theatre (Of Mice and Men, The Diary of Anne Frank, To Kill a Mockingbird, Best of Enemies) in addition to their lighthearted offerings (Disaster! The Musical).
PVP is the only non-profit community theatre in Brighton and the resident (and only) theatre company of The Armory PAC.
Donor and grant support allows PVP to:
- Provide opportunities for both Brighton locals and Adams County residents the audition for/participate in and patronize great theatre close to home
- Offer affordable tickets and discount tickets to any 27J student
- Pay the artists whose work is seen on the stage- from the director to the designer and the actors. Even if it is a stipend to cover the actors' gas and mileage- it is important to honor their work and commitment.
- Bring patrons from all over the metro-area and state to our area, who might not have otherwise visited Brighton/Adams County. This provides these out-of-towners a chance to see what Brighton has to offer. These patrons visit local restaurants before or after a performance which feeds into Brighton's economy and it also exposes these patrons to the Armory's programming.
- Offer annual free Theatre for Young Audience productions, free for everyone and for all ages to attend.
- Provide opportunities for young people to participate in the arts. Weserve youth in the Brighton and surrounding area communities. These youth are 27J students. Brighton has four Title 1 schools, students live in a rural community, and 39% of 27J students qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch. 59% of 27J students identify as BIPOC. Youth in rural communities have less access to the arts and theater education–especially opportunities to create and own their own pieces of art.
