Background Statement

Pitkin, Eagle, Garfield Damage Prevention Council (PEGDPC) stands as a testament to the vision and dedication of its founder, Michael Whiddon. With a profound understanding of the critical need for safety and education, Mr. Whiddon established PEGDPC to enlighten every resident across the three-county area about the imperative nature of 'Call 811 B4U Dig'. His foresight led to a scholarship program designed to empower local high school seniors to pursue their educational and career aspirations.

Amid the challenges that Colorado and the Western Slope face, particularly the demand for skilled workers in the damage prevention, utilities, and construction sectors, PEGDPC emerged as a beacon of hope. Mr. Whiddon, in his unwavering commitment, recognized the potential of our talented local students and took proactive steps. He provided them with invaluable insights into the abundance of high-paying jobs within these industries, laying the foundation for a future where our skilled workforce thrives within the heart of our communities.

As we embark on this transformative journey, the vision of PEGDPC extends beyond its current reach. We aspire to broaden our impact by including all fifteen high schools in the three-county area, a monumental endeavor that calls for collective support to hire a full-time executive director dedicated to achieving this goal. We invite you to join us in our mission to expand these vital programs. With your support, we can elevate PEGDPC to new heights, ensuring that the knowledge, opportunities, and prosperity we provide reverberate across every corner of our community.
