Pikes Peak Academy

A nonprofit organization

Pikes Peak Academy must raise 80% of expenses. Our students come to us at risk of not graduating, yet 88% graduate with life skills to succeed. Average private high school costs $15,000 in Colorado. PPA charges on sliding scale, serves mostly low income students and receives no government funding.

Testimonials

Miguel - My year has been unimaginable! When I first came to Pikes Peak Academy, it was hard for me to accept how nice, generous and helpful the people were. My first year was a little rough; I needed to learn to control my anger. That's when (PPA's staff and my parents) helped me through my school years here at Pikes Peak Academy, and I would like to thank them all!
Moses - PPA is one of the most loving, caring schools you will find anywhere. This school really made me feel welcome as soon as I walked in the door. I would have never thought any school could show teenagers so much respect. I also didn't expect any school would help me plan for the future, but that's just what they did.

Araceli - My high school career hasn't been the easiest. I won't lie; there have been a few times when I wanted to just give up, only because it's taken me a bit longer than most. I was so close to giving up on high school and myself; then I found PPA. Coming to PPA has been a blessing. I have met people that have brightened up my life like no other and that have helped build my confidence.

Mission

To provide a quality education in a Christ-centered environment for students at-risk of not graduating or becoming disconnected youth. We want to see all of our students grow academically, emotionally and spiritually.

Background Statement

Pikes Peak Academy (PPA) began in 1993 when Mark Becker, a Colorado Springs public high school teacher, was contacted by Tom Tillapaugh from the Denver Street School (DSS). DSS was started in 1985 as a Christian inner-city high school to meet the needs of students who had not succeeded in traditional school settings.

Taking DSS as a model, PPA began with 8 students and 2 volunteers in Widefield. Within months the school moved to a more centrally located Colorado Springs neighborhood and in 2020 moved to a larger location on Pikes Peak Avenue. In 2001, Pikes Peak Academy became a separate 501(c) 3 non-profit ministry.

PPA values individualized instruction, project-based learning, initiative, mastery and practical life skills. We include a spiritual formation component that seeks genuine heart change and believe this type of change best takes place in highly relational community that is rooted in love. We work to create a family atmosphere that invites students to deeper levels of emotional healing and healthy relationships.

Pikes Peak Academy has always and continues to admit students of any race, spiritual belief, or economic background to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to its students and does not discriminate in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school administered programs.
