We Need Our Pool

Ponds, lakes, streams, and rivers at over 10,000 feet above sea level aren’t safe to learn and practice the lifesaving and lifelong skill of swimming.

Our capital campaign is to raise $3.5 million to renovate and re-open LCAC and in order to safely do so, swimming pool replacement, ADA upgrades, and HVAC upgrades are required.

Thank you to all donors and the community for supporting this project.

Mission

Pb Swims is committed to renovating, operating, and maintaining an affordable public aquatic center. Our priorities are safety, sustainability, diversity, and accessibility as we provide education, recreation, and wellness for all.

Background Statement

2010, Pb Swims was founded because people were being turned away from LCAC due to lack of proper swimming attire. Pb Swims achieved its goal, making swimming accessible to all by getting swimsuit donations for those without.

2015, Pb Swims replaced the broken diving board within LCAC. The project was completed ahead of time and under budget, so funds not spent on the diving board were earmarked for capital expenditures at the aquatic center.

2020, LCAC was closed December 12th for repairs and has remained closed.

2021, the Lake County Board of Commissioners permanently closed LCAC on April 21st . Pb Swims began investigating options for a fiscally sustainable indoor swimming pool, built to last and available to all. Supporters were enabled to make tax exempt donations to Pb Swims through Lake County Community Fund who served as the fiscal sponsor.

2023, on September 27th Pb Swims received its 501c3 designation .

2024, Pb Swims is taking contributions toward a fiscally sustainable indoor swimming pool, built to last, and available to all.

The most recent estimate to build a standalone aquatic center comparable to what we have now is $24 million. As of May 2023, the cost to renovate our existing aquatic center over 10 years is $6.9 million, plus $3 million for the building itself and site.

Renovating LCAC is more cost effective than spending $24-$30 million and waiting, at best, 10 to 15 years for a new facility. Renovating LCAC will have a lasting impact as architects and engineers presenting the 2020 LCAC Audit affirmed renovation/replacement options would have an approximate 50-year life span.

Renovating the aquatic center now is fiscally, environmentally, and socially responsible.

We welcome any contribution, in-kind help, and/or shared resources.
