Background Statement
The idea behind Park County Community Foundation grew from work that began in 2020, when a six year youth substance use prevention effort showed what could happen when local resources were used to strengthen the organizations already serving Park County.
Instead of building new programs where community capacity already existed, PCCF’s founders focused on listening, partnering, and investing in efforts that could reduce risk factors and build protective factors for young people, families, and the wider community. Over time, that approach directed over $100,000 to local organizations and helped shape a model rooted in trust, collaboration, and local stewardship.
That experience became the seed of PCCF’s broader purpose: to create a permanent local foundation that can bring donors, nonprofits, businesses, and community partners together around shared needs and opportunities. Sponsored initiatives like Helping Youth Vision & Engagement (HYVE) and the Green Thumb Initiative began in that early prevention work and continue today as examples of PCCF’s partner before build approach; mobilizing resources, engaging capable partners, and removing barriers without duplicating direct services.
