Paisley Project

A nonprofit organization

What is Paisley Project?

Becoming a widow changes who you are. You won’t be the person you were before. But we can help you figure out who you will become, and new life can be filled with wonder, joy and meaning. The Paisley Project provides concrete resources, practical information, and honest insights into the wacky, irreverent, sometimes gritty but occasionally humorous life of a widow.Paisley Project is about helping women in life-altering transition after the loss of their husbands. We help them find support and resources to reimagine and reinvent their lives. This can be an exciting, motivating process. All women, including widows, have unique and special gifts that the world needs.  We believe that they should be supported in sharing those gifts, in spite of, or possibly even because of, their loss.

At Paisley Project, we’re committed to supporting widows on their healing journey. We include the following Modalities for Healing in all our activities, which are carefully crafted to promote well-being and mitigate the risk of chronic grieving disorder. These tools encompass a range of modalities, each backed by research and compassion:

  • Social Connection in a Safe Space
  • Time in Nature
  • Physical Healing Therapies
  • Therapeutic Art
  • Journaling
  • Professional Coaching

Mission

Mission Statement:

At Paisley Project, our mission is to empower widows to L.I.V.E.—to navigate the profound transition following the loss of their husbands. Through evidence-based resources and compassionate coaching, we stand by widows as they journey through the following stages:

(L) Loss: We acknowledge the pain and grief, providing unwavering support during this difficult time.

(I) Identity: We help widows rediscover their sense of self, fostering personal growth and self-awareness.

(V) Vision: Together, we envision a future filled with purpose and possibility, guiding widows toward new dreams.

(E) Engagement: We encourage widows to reengage with the world, finding renewed meaning and connection.

Paisley Project: Where widows find strength, community, and hope.

Background Statement

Our founder, Karyl McKendry, lost her husband when she was 44 years old. While raising four children, working full-time, and moving three times, she learned that as common as widowhood is… there are very few resources available for these women.

She was determined to address the isolation of loss and the confusion of supporters. She wanted to help widows not only to survive, but to thrive.

Karyl, along with a strong team, started Paisley Project in July 2014 to provide support and empowerment to young widows, while simultaneously educating and activating the widow’s own support network.
