Pack Burro Racing Photographers

Pack burro racing stands as a quintessential example of Colorado heritage sports, reflecting a living legacy that celebrates the role of burros in the state’s pioneering history. These exciting foot races feature teams of racers and their burros navigating challenging courses, some stretching up to 30 miles and ascending more than 13,000 feet. To capture the essence of this vibrant sport, PBR Photographers emerged as an independent group dedicated to documenting pack burro racing and preserving the memories associated with it.

We strive to have PBR photographers at most of the 12-18 races that occur throughout the year, particularly those celebrating Colorado heritage sports such as pack burro racing. Races are typically held in Colorado, Arizona, California, and New Mexico, with additional events now included in MA and TN. If you're interested in volunteering to take photographs, please contact us. Volunteer spots are added to Signup Genius as we get closer to the race dates.

We believe that photography is not just about capturing moments but also about editing those images for the best possible composition. A significant amount of time is spent after pack burro racing events to refine photographs down to the finest selections. Each participant in these Colorado heritage sports typically receives at least five beautiful photographs. Many of these images even find their way into professional publications featuring stories about the sport and the exhilarating races, showcasing the work of talented PBR photographers.
