$10,000 Goal

Our team is made up entirely of volunteers and all of our financial support comes from fundraising events, merchandise sales, donations, and grants. Our services are free - we do not charge to search for, or rescue, anyone. Please help us to purchase equipment and provide training for our members.

Testimonials

You never think something like this will happen to you, but as I was hiking with my friends on the Weehawken trail one day in June, "wam bam," down I went. I twisted my ankle and it soon became evident that I would not be able to hike out on my own. My friends hurried to the car to call Ouray Mountain Rescue. I was so surprised to see a team of rescuers within the hour. Their response was so quick, the crew was obviously well trained, and I had no idea there was such amazing equipment available to transport injured people down the mountain to safety. I am very grateful to the dedicated responders who answered the call that day to help "wheelbarrow" me down the mountain. My thanks to all. By the way, my ankle has mended and I am once again hiking and discovering the wonder and beauty of Colorado.

Mission

The Ouray Mountain Rescue Team was incorporated as a non-profit organization to serve the technical rescue and emergency medical service needs of Ouray County and the surrounding mountain communities of southwestern Colorado.

Background Statement

Incorporated in 1974, our team now comprises 34 active members. For more than 47 years, OMRT had been stepping up (literally!) to help Ouray County residents and visitors who were lost or injured. Our team was first formed by local adventurers when skills, endurance, and backcountry knowledge were required beyond the Sheriff's Department's abilities. We have evolved a great deal in this time, but continue to learn and grow in order to be the most responsive, efficient, excellent rescue team possible.
