Mission

Ocean Conservation through Research and Education

Background Statement

Protecting Our Blue Planet – From the Heart of Colorado

This Colorado Gives Day, join us in making waves for ocean conservation. Ocean First Institute is a Boulder-based nonprofit with a global mission: to protect the ocean through cutting-edge research, innovative education, and community action.

Though we're far from the coast, our work starts right here in Colorado. We empower local youth with hands-on marine science programs, connect classrooms to underwater expeditions around the world, and lead international research to protect sharks and other vital marine species. From the Rockies to the reefs, we believe that everyone—no matter where they live—can be a steward of the sea.

Your support helps us:

Advance critical ocean research, including shark conservation, plastic pollution, and eDNA science

Inspire the next generation of marine scientists through Colorado-based youth programs and school partnerships

Connect people to the ocean through outreach that fosters empathy, awareness, and action

🌊 Colorado cares about the ocean—because water connects us all.

Give today. Protect tomorrow.
