Testimonials
The North London Mill serves as an iconic symbol of Park County's mining heritage, but the harsh climate of Mosquito Pass has taken its toll over the last 130 years. As recently as 1990, the mill's roof and walls were largely intact and the office structure still provided shelter from the weather. In recent years these structures have deteriorated to the point that immediate action must be taken if the site is to be preserved.
The North London Mill property is also an important recreation resource along Mosquito Pass, the highest automobile pass in North America. Alpine slopes above the mill offer spring skiing and summer wildflower viewing opportunities, and Mosquito Creek supports a wild trout fishery. In fact, the North London Mill property is contained within the Mosquito Range Conservation Area where several globally-rare plants and extensive riparian willow communities have been documented by the Colorado Natural Heritage Program at CSU.
The project proposed herein affords an opportunity to preserve the remaining mining structures,
conserve rare plant communities on the property, and adaptively utilize the site to support Park
County's recreation economy while preserving our natural and cultural heritage.
