We ask that you join with us in solidarity to support the third cohort of Apprentice Bakers at Newcomers Pastry Academy at Reunion Bread Co.
Newcomers Pastry Academy is a Colorado nonprofit corporation and its primary activity is the operation of a work-readiness program that provides social-emotional training and skill-based learning opportunities to newcomers from Central and South America to equip them with the necessary skills to be employment-ready bakers and culinary business entrepreneurs.
This fundraising campaign is in support of expanding and running the Academy's third cohort to four participants in early 2026 so that we can continue to offer a hands-on bakery business experience, mentorship, employment readiness, and community connection for newcomers in Denver.
The Newcomers Pastry Academy's entrepreneurial apprenticeship program is an innovative social/emotional training and learning program that employs a holistic approach to train and teach newcomers the skills they need to become pastry chefs in a supportive, bilingual environment. The program encourages belief in oneself and promotes self-confidence, and enhances the immigrant experience.
Newcomers Pastry Academy envisions a community where newcomers have tenacity for entrepreneurial skills that can equip and serve them to be positive, trained, and contributing members of the community while also providing them with options to protect them against any disadvantages of being a newcomer that result from isolation and lack of skills. The program is designed to foster a sense of belonging to a new community and inspire authentic human connections.
After the successful completion of two pilot program cohorts in 2024 and 2025 at Reunion Bread Co., four people have completed the six-month training program, participating in ESL classes, completing the ServSafe certification, taking part in a Farmer's Market while creating and selling their own unique dessert, and have gone on to culinary employment.

Background Statement
Newcomers Pastry Academy entrepreneurial apprenticeship training program is an important venture for several reasons. The current anti-immigrant environment does not adequately address the social/emotional learning and training needs of newcomers. Yet research shows that newcomers who have access to a comprehensive social/emotional learning environment are more successful in starting their life and work in the USA than those who do not. When an individual is part of a training program, they are more likely to succeed than those that don’t have such access. Training programs equip individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their job effectively. Feeling a part of a team leads to increased confidence, productivity, and overall job satisfaction.
