Nebula Ensemble is an award-winning experimental music group pushing genre boundaries, advocating for living creators, and connecting with our community through immersive, multidisciplinary concert experiences. Described as “weird, fresh, and novel” and “an immersive experience unlike anything the crowd had ever experienced before," Nebula Ensemble performs the newest of contemporary classical music in visually striking shows that emphasize cross-disciplinary collaboration and audience participation. Since the group’s founding in 2014, Nebula Ensemble has presented programs at Colorado venues including the Newman Center, the Denver Art Museum, Syntax Physic Opera, Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church, and Regis University. To date, the group has received three awards for outstanding performance including Westword’s Best of Denver 2019, and has commissioned new works by up-and-coming composers residing in the US, Spain, Hungary, Sweden, Italy, France, and the UK.
Mission
Nebula Ensemble is an experimental contemporary classical music ensemble committed to providing a platform for living music creators. We are dedicated to amplifying traditionally marginalized voices through inclusive programming and mindful collaboration. We provide our community with thematic, immersive concert experiences through multidisciplinary collaboration. We focus on uplifting creatives who live and work in our community, while also partnering with creatives around the world.
Background Statement
Nebula Ensemble was founded by a group of Lamont School of Music graduates in 2014 with the mission of performing world premieres by up-and-coming composers who otherwise might not have the opportunity to share their music with a live audience. Our commitment to championing living creators remains at the core of our mission, while our focus has expanded to include performing previously-premiered works written by living composers in recent decades.
Nebula Ensemble is currently one of only two established contemporary classical chamber ensembles serving the Denver area, and as such we provide Denver audiences with a rare opportunity to be fully immersed in a high-quality new music concert experience. We value intimate concert settings and work to build strong relationships with a supportive audience, performing an average of three programs per year at multiple venues on the Front Range.
Nebula Ensemble further serves the Front Range community through our Education and Community Engagement programming, which focuses on bringing empowering new-music-making experiences to K-12 students while also providing masterclass and workshop experiences at the college level.
