We are excited about the scientific expertise and non-partisan approach to public policy that the Nature Conservancy utilizes in its work. Through this partnership, we hope to bring our business, policy, scientific and environmental leaders together to make Colorado exemplary as a leader in the United States and globally." - Gail Klapper, president of the Colorado Forum

"The Nature Conservancy’s 13ers group provides a platform for me and other young professionals to mobilize around a goal, specifically saving nature in Colorado. I’ve learned more about the work TNC does and I’ve been able to feel like I’m part of that mission. Building a conservation ethic is critical to the future of this planet and the 13ers are one example of how a shared goal can drive action for the future." - Matt Nunez, TNC 13ers Young Professionals Advisory Council Member

Mission

The Colorado way of life revolves around the natural beauty, clean water, agricultural heritage, outdoor recreation, and diverse landscapes that draw in visitors and residents alike. As the environment faces increasing challenges from climate change and biodiversity loss, it is clear that the nature we depend on, depends on us.

Our mission is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends.

Our vision is a world where the diversity of life thrives, and people act to conserve nature for its own sake and its ability to fulfill our needs and enrich our lives.

Background Statement

For more than 55 years we've helped protect the lands and waters upon which all life depends in Colorado and beyond. We have conserved over 1 million acres of land throughout the state, protected over 1,000 miles of rivers and streams, restored more than 16,000 acres of forests, and are uniting Colorado's cities with nature.

Our strategy:

The Nature Conservancy is tackling the root causes of some of the toughest problems facing people and nature today, replicating good ideas to save places and improve people's lives.

- PROTECT Colorado's natural resources by conserving our rivers, lands, and forests, building healthier cities, and tackling climate change.

- TRANSFORM how nature thrives by using science-based, innovative strategies to inform business practices and public policies.

- INSPIRE Coloradans to value nature every day and act on their concern for the environment through individual choices and collective action.

Our approach:

Science: Scientific research is the foundation of TNC's approach to all our conservation work.

Partnerships: Through collaborations with an extensive network of partners all over the world, The Nature Conservancy can act on the most complex challenges facing the planet.

Leadership: TNC's standing as a pragmatic, bi-partisan, solutions-based organization positions us as the honest broker in the room and the go-to expert on environmental policy.

Experience: We have 50+ years of history of conserving important natural places in Colorado, and our projects to protect and restore critical natural resources are helping people and nature thrive together.
