In Colorado, 1 in 4 adults and over 12% of students in public schools have disabilities, but this is just the beginning of the story. Many more individuals living with disabilities remain unseen by these statistics, and the challenges they face are compounded by limited access to inclusive wellness programs. The impact is even more pronounced among students of color, with 40% of Colorado public school students with disabilities identified as Hispanic and Latino. Individuals with disabilities are 44% more likely to experience depression than their peers, underscoring the urgent need for accessible mental and physical wellness solutions.

At Move Through Yoga, we believe that everyone—regardless of physical, intellectual, or developmental ability—deserves equal access to the healing and transformative benefits of yoga. Through our adaptive yoga programs, we empower individuals with disabilities to reclaim their well-being, build inner strength, and experience the joy of movement in an inclusive, supportive environment. Through our training and coaching programs, we empower those who work directly with individuals with disabilities with the necessary skills to safely and effectively implement our techniques in their unique settings. Through our advocacy event, The Yoga Wave, we unite people of all abilities for a powerful, community-wide celebration of inclusion, featuring adaptive yoga, connection, and a resource fair with like-minded organizations and businesses.

Purpose

This fundraiser supports Move Through Yoga’s mission to bring adaptive yoga programs to individuals with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities. We are expanding our programming into Aurora Public Schools in January, starting with 6 of their schools,  and we need the community's support to make our largest rollout possible, including all of their elementary schools.

Fundraising Goals:

  • Total Goal: $175,000
  • Impact Areas:
    • Empowerment Through Training: Funding will support specialized training for educators and caregivers, equipping them to provide inclusive yoga experiences.
    • Expanding Access to Classes: Donations will help us offer adaptive yoga classes tailored to students' needs, ensuring they feel safe, supported, and seen.
    • The Yoga Wave Movement: Contributions will allow us to expand our signature event, The Yoga Wave, which gathers hundreds of students for an empowering, accessible yoga experience.
    • Organizational needs: To sustain and grow our adaptive yoga programs across schools and day programs, we rely on vital organizational support—like program coordination and grant writing. Your contribution helps ensure our programs remain consistent, high-quality, and accessible to individuals with disabilities across Colorado, strengthening the foundation that makes our mission possible every day.

We believe in the power of community—when we breathe, move, and grow together, we create lasting change. Your donation helps make adaptive wellness programming accessible to individuals who often face barriers to these life-changing programs.

How to Get Involved:

  • Make a Donation: Contributions from November 1st through Colorado Gives Day on December 9th can be made. All donations during this period will be boosted by a community incentive fund.
  • Spread the Word: Share our mission with friends and family who believe in inclusion and empowerment.
  • Watch the Impact: Follow our journey as we expand our reach and create more opportunities for individuals with disabilities to find strength and joy through adaptive yoga.

"Together, we can make a difference for so many who are underserved and underrepresented — one breath, one movement at a time."

Mission

Our mission is to expand access to the benefits of adaptive yoga for individuals with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities through direct services in schools, camps, and day programs, as well as by training the professionals and families who support them.

Background Statement

Move Through Yoga (MTY) is a Colorado-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to making yoga and movement accessible to individuals with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities. Founded by educator and yoga therapist Stefanie Gross, MTY partners with public school districts, adult day programs, and community organizations to integrate adaptive, trauma-conscious yoga into educational and therapeutic settings.

Currently serving 30+ Denver-area schools and multiple adult day programs, MTY continues to expand its reach through district partnerships, grant funding, and community collaborations, ensuring that all individuals—regardless of ability—have equitable access to the benefits of movement, breath, and self-awareness.
