Background Statement
More Maitri, Inc. was born out of a profound commitment to the principle of Maitri, a Sanskrit word meaning loving-kindness toward oneself and others. Our story began in 2012 when Laura Landis founded a residential organization dedicated to supporting adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Laura's vision was to create a nurturing home environment where individuals could live with dignity, respect, and compassion.
Inspired by the transformative power of the arts, Joshua Frye established the Maitri Multi-Media Program in 2013. This innovative day program was designed to incorporate a variety of art forms, music, and mindfulness practices. By engaging participants in creative projects—both individualized and group-based—the program aimed to enhance communication, coping, and self-expression skills. It fostered independence and a strong sense of community, extending beyond the walls of the program and into the broader society.
Recognizing the need to expand our reach and deepen our impact, Bethany Frye led the transition of our organization into a non-profit entity. On January 1st, 2015, More Maitri, Inc. officially opened its doors as a non-profit human service agency. This pivotal change allowed us to better support our mission of providing comprehensive residential and behavioral therapy services, along with our enriching day programs.
Guided by the philosophy of Maitri, we remain committed to cultivating an environment of loving-kindness that begins with oneself and radiates outward to all. Our programs are centered on empowering individuals through creative expression, healing opportunities, and personal growth. By integrating art, music, and mindfulness, we strive to unlock the full potential of each person we serve.
As we continue to evolve, More Maitri, Inc. is dedicated to upholding the values upon which we were founded. We invite you to join us in our mission to foster compassion, creativity, and community for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
