The Montezuma Heritage Museum is a local history museum dedicated to the history and culture of Montezuma County and the surrounding Region. We provide residents and visitors to the area with engaging exhibitions, public programming, and supplemental educational opportunities! In addition, we preserve our rich and diverse local history for future generations through our permanent archival and object collections.

Mission

The Montezuma Heritage Museum's mission is to educate, enrich and inspire our residents and visitors through the preservation, presentation and interpretation of the county’s and region’s rich and diverse history.

Background Statement

The Montezuma County Historical Society (MCHS) and its predecessors have been working since the 1950s to collect and preserve the cultural and natural history of this diverse county and area. In addition to collecting historical records and artifacts, dozens of history programs and activities have been carried out and a series of four county history books – Great Sage Plain to Timberline – and a vintage recipe cookbook have been published.

Starting in 2018, the Montezuma County Historical Society planned and worked for over five years, raising over $400,000, to achieve the Montezuma Heritage Museum.
