Background Statement
Founded in 2022, Montessori Collective’s mission is to increase equity in early childhood education by bringing the transformative power of the Montessori method to underserved metro Denver communities. We partner with existing public preschool programs, guiding them in their transition to child-centered learning environments that prioritize children's independence, curiosity, and self-directed learning.
Research consistently demonstrates the profound impact of Montessori education. Studies, such as the landmark research by Lillard et al. (2017), have shown that Montessori significantly boosts students' academic achievement and strengthens crucial executive functioning skills – all while effectively narrowing the achievement gap between high-income and low-income students.
By integrating Montessori classrooms within public schools, we eliminate geographic barriers and ensure that children in historically underserved communities have access to exceptional early childhood education right in their own neighborhoods.
Montessori Collective currently partners with seven Denver classrooms, serving approximately 120 students per year. Eighty-eight percent of these children qualify for free or reduced lunch, and 98% identify as students of color. Our goal for the 2026-27 school year is to expand our reach by partnering with three additional classrooms, increasing the number of children served annually to 165.
With you investment, Montessori Collective can establish a lasting impact. Our model ensures long-term sustainability, with minimal ongoing support required after the initial classroom transition, so each classroom has the potential to serve hundreds of children over the coming years.
