Background Statement
The Monte Vista Education Foundation (MVEF) was established on April 24, 1995, to support the education of students in Monte Vista, Colorado. A volunteer board provides time, energy, and expertise to accomplish the Foundation’s work. MVEF has supported numerous student-centered projects beginning in 2001 for a total of approximately $299,000 as of May 2025. This value includes a Daniels Grant for $157,500 for a field house at the Monte Vista Community Sports Complex.
The Foundation solicits endowment funds through gifts, testamentary bequests, charitable remainder trusts, Monte Vista School District employee contributions and personal donations. Monte Vista Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) making all contributions tax deductible.

The Foundation has received a sizable bequest of funding for scholarships from the estate of Alice Jean Sater Ritchey, who graduated from Rio Grande County High School (now Monte Vista High School) in the late 1930s. With these funds, the MVEF is able to provide three scholarships for $4,000 each year. These scholarships are then renewable for $4,000 per year up to four years. Currently the annual scholarship total is approximately $44,000. To date scholarships have been paid out totaling $176,750.
