We are a small, all volunteer, community focused, 501(c3) non-profit taking on the challenge of restoring and preserving historic sites in the Dumont-Lawson-Downieville area of Colorado. Locally known as Mill Creek Valley and rich in Colorado history. The Dumont Schoolhouse provides a place for the community to gather for special fundraising events like our annual melodrama as well as a meeting place for other local organizations and family gatherings. Donations go towards the maintenance and preservation of the Dumont Schoolhouse, the Coburn Cabin and The Mill City House. We are proud that both the Dumont School and The Mill City House are on the National Register of Historic Places. All donations are fully tax deductible.
Testimonials
"I have only lived in Dumont for 7 years but have really gotten to love this town and all of the history. I feel that the Mill Creek Valley Historical Society is important to the community and support their efforts to save the historical sites that are still around. So much of the history was erased by the construction of I-70." Debbi Novotny
"We have lived in Dumont since 1969. the Mill City House has always been a wonder to us and we would like for it to become a museum. It would help our community with the history of the area and we are happy to participate in the yard sales and other events sponsored by the Mill creek Valley Historical Society."
