A Heartfelt Plea: Remember Audrey
Imagine the sound of laughter echoing through your home, the warmth of a hug from your daughter, the bright excitement of graduation day. Now imagine all of that silenced in an instant—because of one reckless decision. Audrey Claire was a vibrant, loving daughter, sister, and friend. She brought light into every room she entered and had a whole lifetime of dreams waiting ahead of her. She should have walked across the stage at Castle View High School, diploma in hand, her family cheering from the stands as she stepped boldly into her future.
Instead, her seat at graduation was empty.
Her laughter, her hugs, her bright future—all stolen on a summer night by a driver who chose to get behind the wheel impaired. She was doing nothing wrong. She was simply riding home with friends, innocent and full of life, when another driver’s choice shattered everything in a split second. The pain didn’t end at the crash scene. It didn’t end at her memorial. It lives on in an empty chair at the family dinner table, in birthdays and holidays that will never be whole, in milestones she should have reached alongside her friends. Every single day, her family and loved ones feel the deep, quiet ache of her absence, carrying a loss that changes a family forever. This isn’t about blame or fear. It is about reality. One single moment of thinking, “I’m fine to drive,” ripples outward with devastating force—shattering parents, siblings, classmates, first responders, and entire communities. You might think, “That could never happen to me or my circle.” But Audrey’s family never imagined it would happen to them, either. Until it did. You have the power to change the outcome.

Nate:
Nate was a kind, caring and loving person, always willing to help. He took pride in everything he did which showed in his work as an auto upholsterer, which he owned for over 30 years. He loved the outdoors, yard work, boating and golf.
On December 23, 2024, Nate was with a customer driving to get a part when he stopped at a stop light. He was hit by an impaired driver doing over 80 MPH. He was killed instantly and his passenger had a broken back and a brain bleed. We were unsure if he would live, but he is doing better after having a couple surgeries, but his life will never be the same.
People need to not make a crucial decision to drive impaired as that mistake can devastate numerous lives forever.
I could never have gotten through what I have without the help from MADD. MADD is a great organization that helps to change laws and help people to deal with such traumatic events.

Founded by a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver, Mothers Against Drunk Driving is the nation's largest nonprofit working to protect families from impaired driving and underage substance use. As one of the largest victim services organizations in the country, MADD supports victims and sruvivors of impaired at no charge, serving a victim every 15 minutes through local MADD victim advocates and MADD's 24 hour hotline 1-877-MADD-HELP.
In 1983, Barbara Brodt founded the chapter that became the MADD Colorado state office in honor of her mother, Dorothy Brodt, who was senselessly killed by a drunk driver. For over 43 years, MADD Colorado provides support services to victims and survivors across the state.
