Founded in 1977, Mackintosh Academy was the first private school in Colorado to recognize and serve the unique needs of gifted children. Eve Mackintosh opened the school and served as director until 1992. With the benefit of over forty years of operation, the school continues to set new standards for gifted education. Our holistic, well-rounded educational program focuses on the mind and the heart and nurtures the social, emotional, physical and creative needs of gifted children, as well as academic ones. In addition, it emphasizes the need to put learning into action to make our community and the outside world a better place.
The curriculum provides our students with the academic foundation and skills to continue in any challenging high school or preparatory school environment. We employ the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years and Middle Years Programme curricular framework which helps ensure students are engaged, challenged and pushed to be independent thinkers and use their knowledge as a stepping stone for action within the world.
We are committed to inclusivity, diversity, and equity in our school community, and our community of faculty, families, and students reflects a wide range of backgrounds. We provide support to twice-exceptional and neuro-diverse learners. Nearly 1/3 of our students receive financial support to assist with tuition.
