LuBird's Playground will not only serve children with special needs, but children and families with all abilities. Our main goal is to create a playground where kids of all abilities and background can come to enjoy sensory rich and inclusive playground equipment with their family, friends and therapists in a welcoming, playful and fully accessible environment. A place where it's okay for kids to shout their excitement, run to regulate their sensory systems, and a place for people to learn from and gain acceptance of all types of behaviors. A playground is a safe and free place for all to come regardless of socio-economic background, religious or political beliefs and physical and intellectual abilities. By addressing these needs thoughtfully in the design of LuBird's Playground, we will be able to create a model for community development while also meeting our vision of a space where all kids can play together. An inclusive playground will give children and adults of all abilities the opportunity to engage in socialization and stimulation through play. Through carefully selected equipment, all children will have an opportunity to learn while having fun in a safe and public space where everyone is welcomed.
LuBird's Light Foundation was created to give all kids a chance to play by building inclusive playgrounds and donating inclusive pieces of equipment to existing parks.
With the help of our supporters, we were able to build a fully inclusive and magical playground at Stanley Marketplace! We were able to donate Denver's first wheelchair swing and 2 inclusive spinners to renovated parks in Denver! And we have been able to donate over 15 supported swings throughout Colorado!
Because of our supporters, there are places in Colorado where children of all abilities can slide, swing, bounce, climb and be fully included on a playground.
Play provides children with sensory, physical and social benefits and a playground allows all members of the community a chance to experience these benefits together.
We will continue to advocate for inclusion on playgrounds by consulting and donating pieces of inclusive play equipment. Thank you for helping us create smiles and bring joy to kids of all abilities, because all kids a chance to PLAY!
