Our Motto: Preserve, Restore and Educate.
Appeal: To serve as a focal point for various historical groups in the community and to offer assistance to those researching local history.
Second Grade History Days
The Loveland Museum has used its resources to provide curriculum support for over 1,000 second graders annually for the past six years, by offering a district-wide, day-long history field trip. With Common Core Standards, adopted by the Colorado Department of Education, the study of local history moved from third grade curriculum to second grade. The Museum, along with the Thompson Education Foundation, identified the need for a field trip for second graders that included visiting the Museum, historic Rialto Theater and Lone Tree School (one-room schoolhouse) to enhance their hands-on local history curriculum. The field trip is the culmination of their local history unit.
For a full week in May, over 50 staff and volunteers dedicate about 500 hours to make the trip an amazing experience for our second graders and their teachers. All 21 elementary schools in the Thompson School District participate. This opportunity for students would not be possible without the members of the Loveland Historical Society.
From the beginning of this program in 2014, LHS members have served as volunteers and program advisors. History Days features workshops and hands-on activities that cover lessons based on Arapaho tribes, Louisiana Purchase, natural resources, Gold Rush, mountain men, explorers, Homestead Act, pioneers and homesteaders, Colorado Territory, Colorado Central Railroad and how they each contributed to Loveland coming a town. Members of the Loveland Historical Society have led tours and lessons, and make up about 70% of the program's volunteer base. While we have many returning volunteers from LHS each year, they have also helped to recruit new volunteers annually.
The Loveland Museum greatly appreciates the contribution that the Loveland Historical Society makes to this important program.

COMMUNITY GARDENS AT THE MILNER/SCHWARZ FARMHOUSE MUSEUM
The Loveland Historical Society sponsors a community garden which includes 12 plots that we lease for $50 per plot, per season. For that seasonal fee, we rototill each plot in the spring and provide water throughout the summer. It allows community members to have a garden if they do not have room at their home or apartment. We invite novice and seasoned gardeners who want to share the joys and challenges of growing veggies, flowers, herbs with other gardeners in our community garden setting. In addition, many of our gardeners give their excess veggies to the local food bank

The Loveland Historical Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation administered by interested citizens to preserve, restore, and maintain historically significant landmarks in and around Loveland, and to promote and provide education on the cultural and historical heritage of the Loveland area by sponsoring educational programs, serving as a focal point for the community's historical interests and activities, and to support the Loveland Museum through volunteerism, programs and exhibits related to the history of the surrounding area.
The Friends of the Museum began in 1972 when Safeway was given permission to
scrape the entire block bounded by Lincoln, Cleveland, Eighth, and Ninth Streets. A
meeting was called with interest in preserving and restoring Loveland's historic
buildings, and Safeway Corp. gave the 1898 Van Sandt house to the newly formed
organization. The Friends helped the Loveland Museum become a vital part of the
community, assisting until they voted to dissolve and merge with the newly formed
Loveland Historical Society (LHS) in 1998.
