For 25 years, Lord’s Daily Bread has been a place of dignity, nourishment, and hope for Denver neighbors facing some of life’s hardest challenges. We serve individuals and families experiencing physical and mental health struggles, disabilities, economic hardship, displacement, domestic violence, and food insecurity. By showing up consistently and with compassion we’ve earned deep trust in our community, offering reliable, respectful support that helps people meet basic needs and take steps toward stability and self-sufficiency. In 2024, Lord’s Daily Bread served 65,000 meals and provided 41,750 referrals for housing, jobs, counseling, etc. to individuals and families who needed support.

Every year and in every season, meals are served. But our reach doesn’t stop at our doors.

Through on-site feedings across the Denver metro area, including Denver and Aurora, Lord’s Daily Bread meets people where they are quite literally. Our food truck program, launched in September 2023, has become a lifeline for under-served neighborhoods, doubling our ability to serve meals and reaching approximately 200 neighbors at each delivery. Those we serve represent countries around the world, from Indonesia and Ecuador to Kenya, Mexico, Senegal, Venezuela, and beyond—each person welcomed with warmth, respect, and a nourishing meal.

For those who cannot come to us, we bring food to them. Every week, 35 older adults and individuals with disabilities receive meals delivered directly to their homes, ensuring no one is forgotten or left behind.

Lord’s Daily Bread is committed to more than filling plates, we prioritize healthy, culturally appropriate foods that honor the traditions and needs of newcomer youth, adults, and families. Food distributions take place twice weekly, providing enough nourishment to last several days and bring consistency to chaotic circumstances. With two food trucks and a pickup truck visiting 10 neighborhoods each week.

Beyond meals, volunteers stand alongside families offering cooking demonstrations and nutrition education. These small moments that spark confidence, connection, and long-term wellbeing.

At Lord’s Daily Bread, food is the beginning. Community, dignity, and hope are always on the menu.

Giving Activity

Mission

Lord's Daily Bread's mission is to provide food and respectful, reliable services to meet clients’ basic needs and help them navigate paths to self-sufficiency. We do this through developing partnerships with local retailers who donate to our organization. This includes financial contributions as well as in-kind donations: personal care products, clothing and, primarily, food, which we then transport to feeding locations and distribute to the people who need it.

Background Statement

Founded in 1990, Lord’s Daily Bread began as a simple act of compassion when founder Russell Bryant used his personal resources to provide food to people experiencing homelessness in downtown Denver. As relationships formed, it became clear that hunger was only part of the need. Individuals also required clothing, hygiene supplies, transportation, mental health support, and pathways to stability.

Lord’s Daily Bread formally incorporated in 2004 and received nonprofit status in 2007, with a mission to provide food, health services, counseling, and referrals to individuals and families experiencing homelessness and poverty across Metropolitan Denver. While many organizations serve meals, the growing complexity of homelessness demands both nourishment and wraparound care.

What sets Lord’s Daily Bread apart is its community-informed model, which engages volunteers and staff with lived experience of homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use, and incarceration. This approach fosters trust, deepens engagement, and improves follow-through with supportive services.

Recognized as a contributor to Denver’s 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness, Lord’s Daily Bread continues today as a Denver-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, operating an Emergency Hunger Relief Program rooted in dignity, connection, and hope.
