The Longmont Emergency Unit’s mission is to provide specialized volunteer emergency services to assist law enforcement and public safety agencies in safeguarding lives, ensuring public safety, and fostering community resilience.

(Desire to Serve, Ability to Perform & Courage to Act)

Background Statement

The Longmont Emergency Unit was founded in 1957 in response to a tragic drowning incident involving three brothers at Issac Walton Pond. This event revealed a critical gap in emergency response capabilities within the community and spurred the creation of LEU as a volunteer organization.

Since its inception, LEU has grown to become a trusted partner for local law enforcement and public safety agencies, offering specialized support services. While not currently engaged in technical search and rescue operations, LEU continues its focus on vital community needs, particularly in missing persons searches, evidence recovery, and public safety support.
