The Longmont Emergency Unit (LEU) is an all-volunteer emergency response organization proudly serving Longmont, Colorado, and the surrounding areas since 1957. Our team focuses on traffic control, medical standby services, and additional critical services such as missing persons searches, evidence searches, crime scene lighting, and community event support. Operating 24/7, LEU is committed to assisting local law enforcement, emergency services, and the community during times of critical need.
The Longmont Emergency Unit has received national and local government recognition for volunteerism within the community as well acknowledgments from surrounding fire service agencies and private citizens within the community. The LEU has a long history of serving it's community. As an example, many years ago the Unit was featured in a Rescue 911 television documentary involving a successful dramatic swift water rescue in the mountains of Boulder County.

Dedicated to Community Safety:
The Longmont Emergency Unit’s mission is to provide specialized volunteer emergency services to assist law enforcement and public safety agencies in safeguarding lives, ensuring public safety, and fostering community resilience.
(Desire to Serve, Ability to Perform & Courage to Act)
The Longmont Emergency Unit was founded in 1957 in response to a tragic drowning incident involving three brothers at Issac Walton Pond. This event revealed a critical gap in emergency response capabilities within the community and spurred the creation of LEU as a volunteer organization.
Since its inception, LEU has grown to become a trusted partner for local law enforcement and public safety agencies, offering specialized support services. While not currently engaged in technical search and rescue operations, LEU continues its focus on vital community needs, particularly in missing persons searches, evidence recovery, and public safety support.
