The Liv Project is a creative collective on a mission to save lives through fearless conversation, connection, and storytelling. Founded by the family of Liv Kunik after her death by suicide at age 19, The Liv Project transforms heartbreak into hope, using creativity as a bridge to spark dialogue around suicide and mental health and inspire real change.
We believe that talking about mental health shouldn’t feel heavy, clinical, or out of reach. Through fearless storytelling, innovative tools, and youth-led programming, we’re reimagining how people connect and how we talk about what it means to struggle, to survive, and to support each other.
At The Liv Project, we harness the power of creativity to ignite connection and conversation in schools, communities, and families. Our work includes:
Film & Storytelling — Our award-winning documentary My Sister Liv sheds light on the stigma surrounding mental health and the ripple effects of suicide. Screenings and panel discussions create space for honest, healing conversations that bring people together.
THE GAME THAT GOES THERE® — A hilarious and heartfelt conversation game co-created with mental health professionals and youth advisors, designed to make it easier and even fun to talk about real feelings.
Workshops & Creative Programming — Led by Tess Kunik, Liv’s sister, a creative arts educator, these workshops use storytelling, art, and play to build empathy, courage, and community among youth.
Community Events & Partnerships — We collaborate with schools, organizations, and mental health providers to create spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and safe to “go there.”
Our vision is simple but profound: a world where no one feels alone in their struggle, where conversations about mental health are as natural as conversations about physical health, and where creativity and connection help us all find a way through.
The Liv Project creates innovative tools that spark fearless conversations, empowering families and communities to prevent youth suicide.
The Liv Project was founded after the tragic loss of 19-year-old Liv Kunik to suicide. In the wake of her passing, her family created the documentary My Sister Liv, a fearless and deeply personal film that sheds light on the stigma surrounding mental health, the struggles so many young people face, and the profound impact suicide leaves on those who remain.
As Liv’s family learned to navigate life after loss, they discovered hope in breaking the silence around mental health. They recognized a powerful need: young people weren’t just watching the film, they were asking for resources, tools, and safe ways to talk about what they were feeling and how to help their friends.
In response, The Liv Project expanded its work beyond the film to include creative tools and experiences, a conversation-starting game, interactive workshops, and honest panel discussions, all designed to help young people open up, connect, and find courage in vulnerability. These programs inspire kindness, compassion, and community for those in crisis and for those who want to support them.
