Founded in 1976, The Center on Colfax is the LGBTQ community's hub for information, resources, social activities, support, and advocacy. Our focus is on ensuring that every member of the LGBTQ community has access to the programs and resources they need to live happy, healthy, and productive lives.
Donations to The Center on Colfax provide year-round funding to help the organization serve more than 50,000 LGBTQ+ community members, youth, young adults, seniors, Colorado’s transgender community, our queer disability community members, allies, and more. With generous gifts from our donors, we are able to provide support services, mental health, resource programs, LGBTQ+ DEI training, a strong community network, and of course Denver Pride!

Mission
The mission of The Center on Colfax is to engage, empower, enrich, and advance the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer community of Colorado.
Background Statement
Whenever you see an LGBTQ+ couple joyfully holding hands in public or taking their children to the park, think about how far we've come as a community. Until the early 1970s, LGBTQ+ people could be arrested-charged with a crime-simply for dancing or exchanging a kiss.
As Denver's LGBTQ+ community came together to mount successful legal challenges that put an end to discriminatory policing, they realized that they needed to do more than just fight back. They needed to create a place where community members could not only feel safe but thrive. In 1976, this dream became a reality with the incorporation of the Gay Community Center of Colorado-now The Center on Colfax.
Reflecting on our history also means improving and expanding our programming so that we can reach everyone in the LGBTQ+ community. Throughout the year, The Center focuses on putting diversity, equity, and inclusion at the heart of everything we do at The Center.
