We are a small 501c3 wild horse and burro rescue/sanctuary located in Pueblo & Pueblo West Colorado! We have 19 mustangs, and 3 burros! We have started the fencing of the new property and all but 6 of the horses are living out there! Our campaign for 2025 is "Fill the Barn!" as most people know horses eat a lot of hay, and I mean a lot! If you think about it an average horse eats 20 pounds of hay a day. Multiply that by 19 horses and we are feeding 380 pounds of hay a day, a little more including the burros. So, we are trying this year to raise as much as we can on the front end of the year to "Fill the Barn" with hay! We get our hay from a local rancher, his bales weigh 65-75 pounds, cost $10 each, and our horses love it! Who knew mustangs would be so picky! I know raising money for hay isn't "fun", but it is a necessary expense. We are not raising funds to bring in any more horses as we have already brought home 6 this year. With your help we can continue to help more horses and help feed the ones we have! Thank you everyone for your support! We truly could not do this without your help!
There are 60+ thousand wild horses and burros in currently in holding facilities. Our mission is to help find homes for as many as our small organization can! Either living their lives here or by adopting out one of our adoptable mustangs into private homes. We will also assist a private adopter with the BLM adoption process. We also offer a place for owner surrenders or at times, if we can help a burro or mustang find its way out of the slaughter pipeline. As the wild mustang and burro world is full of changes we too will change and adapt to find where we best fit in the wild horse world as time goes on.
Our background started with our first mustang, Lizzy. Lizzy is affectionately known as my "midlife crisis" as she was my first horse and my first mustang. Lizzy was from a well-known mustang family on the Onaqui HMA wild horse range. During her adoption she was passed up by everyone that had bid on her. She then found herself with no adopter and no family until I was contacted by a photographer. With her help and with the help of a BLM storefront I was able to adopt Lizzy and that's where we started.
