The Center Early Childhood Program, Leadville CO (2015)

"I can't actually thank you enough for this. This gift is much more than that; it is an opportunity. A few doors are unlocked because of this. I will use what you have given me to further my education and better myself." DR, Lake County High School Graduating Senior (2015)

"I want to thank you for the beneficial scholarship you have provided to help fund my college education! This money will help me greatly to pay for the outstanding expenses that come with being enrolled in a college institution and especially since I am in the Pre-Med program. The books will be a little more expensive than usual programs so this money is a useful asset. I am attending the University of Northern Colorado. Again, than you so much for this generous donation to my education." KG, Lake County High School Graduating Senior (2015)

"Thank you for the scholarship. It means the world that you support my future. Also, thank you for continuing the $1,000 chance to Lake County students over the years!" KS, Lake County High School Graduating Senior (2014)

"Thank you so much for the $1,000 donation to the St. Vincent Hospital Long Term Care bus. We are so happy to report that we have been successful raising the $22,000 and we are ready to shop. This process has been rewarding. What an honor to work with residents and organizations who truly care about our hospital and our Long Term Care residents. Because of you the spirit of adventure that is inherent in the races now provides adventures for our elderly and infirmed. We are proud to say we are ready to put your donation to use. Thank you!" KR, Director, St. Vincent Hospital Foundation (2014)

Mission

The Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation supports the needs of the Leadville / Lake County community, by building a better, brighter tomorrow, while respecting our mining heritage.

Background Statement

In 1982, Leadville's primary employer, Climax Mine, closed. 3,200 miners were instantly unemployed, devastating the town and creating the highest unemployment rate in the nation, overnight. In searching for ways to save the town, the Leadville Trail 100 running race was born. Beginning with 45 runners, racing an epic 100 mile trek through the rugged Rocky Mountain terrain, the Leadville Race Series has now expanded from California to New York, hosting thousands of endurance runners and mountain bikers from all over the world.

Through these races the Lake County community has thrived. In 2012, our local Colorado Mountain College, did an economic assessment that reported the races brought over $15 million into the County each year. Athletes have fallen in love with our unique town, returning year after year, buying homes, and wishing to give back. In 2002 the Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation was created to harness the generous donations of racers to our community.

The Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, Tax ID # 84-1604797, creating a formal and legal means to garner contributions, serving the ever-increasing needs of our historic and beloved Leadville, Lake County community.
