Testimonials

"La Napoule Art Foundation provided a unique opportunity by becoming part of our community, showing us new ways to discover, create and think about how we exist in and contribute to the world. LNAF Visiting Artists, like Dmitri Obergfell engaged us in a nurturing yet challenging way so that we could push our thinking around identity, community and self-portraiture. Everyone at La Napoule Art Foundation believes in the development of the whole child and the transformative power of art. I love working with LNAF and welcome them to our community!"
Alexis Wallin, Kipp Collegiate High School

"Our students were able to engage in a project that we could not have done without LNAF. Students were wildly expressive, creative, imaginative and they had so much fun. We would feel lucky to work with LNAF again in the future!"
Allison Comer, Ashley Elementary Teacher

"My time at La Napoule was one of the most fantastic experiences in my life. I was able to visit the places where the great French artists lived. I hung all my canvases in Henry Clews' studio and painted my French Collection there. It was a fantastic experience living and creating at La Napoule."
Faith Ringgold, LNAF Artist- 1990

"Just like math and science, art is important because it equally lends to the kids' personal development. Having been an inner‐city kid myself, I can relate to these kids. I know what it's like to have limited means and to have to find a positive outlet. That's what art was for me. It's important that art remains relevant to everyone. I thank God for La Napoule Art Foundation."

Mission

La Napoule Art Foundation nurtures artistic talent through Residencies and Community Outreach, fostering the creative process as a catalyst to advance intercultural understanding.

Background Statement

La Napoule Art Foundation (LNAF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with its US headquarters in Denver, Colorado and an active arts center, the Château de La Napoule, overlooking the Mediterranean on the C'ôte d'Azur, France. For nearly 70 years, LNAF has hosted performances, residencies and exhibitions at the Château de La Napoule by artists the world over. In the last decade, LNAF has expanded its impact by hosting exhibitions and community outreach programs in the United States, as well as in France.

Marie Clews, great-grandmother of La Napoule Board President and Denver resident Natasha Clews Gallaway, founded La Napoule Art Foundation in 1951, in memory of her husband Henry Clews, a prolific sculptor. Marie believed that art was essential to the health of individuals and society as a whole; today, the mission of La Napoule Art Foundation continues the Clews' legacy, to nurture artistic talent through artist residencies and community engagement, fostering the creative process as a catalyst to promote intercultural understanding.

La Napoule Art Foundation and Denver share a special connection. Denver artists are a mainstay of the Foundation's residencies at the Château de La Napoule, working and learning alongside international artists, writers, and creatives. Artists return to Denver, bringing their experiences at the Château back to our community, enriching the local arts scene and enlivening Denver classrooms.

Harnessing this roster of world-class artists, LNAF has expanded its impact by creating tailor-made art programs in Denver schools, bringing meaningful art experiences, and inspiration, from the Château directly to communities in our city. Since 2013, LNAF has implemented Visiting Artist Programs in Denver Public Schools, at such partner schools as Hallett Academy, Stedman Elementary, Kipp Collegiate, Park Hill Elementary, Smith Elementary, and C3 Elementary.

Each Visiting Artist Program is led by an LNAF artist and staff member, who work together to create a custom art program designed to meet your specific needs and goals. LNAF values exploratory learning and encourages artists to imbue projects with innovative concepts and personal meaning. One of the goals of the Visiting Artist Program is to close gaps in education by providing quality art programs to schools that may not have the resources to provide regular art programs.
