SCHOLARSHIPS
Alameda is one of several Jefferson High Schools with a high level of low income students. For the last 8 years, we have been proud to provide scholarships to high achieving students who wish to further their education through vocational, community college or university opportunities. A number of these recipients have been the first in their family to pursue higher education.
WRITE STUFF PROJECT
While a number of organizations provide schools supplies to students at the beginning, of the year, a need for basic school supplies when students return from winter break was identified. This includes items that have been used up, including paper, pencils and crayons. For the last 10+ years the Write Stuff Project has been providing packages of these supplies to all students in Elementary schools with the highest level of low income students. Supplies will be provided to 12 Elementary schools with approximately 3,800 students in January.
The Kiwanis Club of Belmar is “All About Kids!” We are constantly looking for
opportunities to help kids develop emotionally, socially, intellectually, and physically,
particularly those kids from a low-income environment. We do this with projects and
programs we Kiwanians have developed, as well as supporting other organizations who
have similar goals. We look to have a positive impact on our community and to have a
good time while making a difference in our community.
The Kiwanis Club of Belmar was started in 2006, a young club in the Kiwanis universe.
We consider ourselves a small but mighty Club!
As a service organization we have provided thousands of volunteer hours to support Kiwanis initiated projects like the Write Stuff Project, as well as providing volunteers for other Lakewood nonprofits such as the Action Center and Jeffco Eats.
We are an all volunteer organization, with a small administrative budget funded by dues paying members. Through fund raising efforts we are able to provide scholarships and make donations to schools and other nonprofits that have similar missions to ours.
