Keep Colorado Beautiful is a statewide nonprofit that empowers Coloradans to take action in their communities. The goal is to protect Colorado’s natural beauty and public spaces, fostering a lasting culture of civic pride and responsibility.
As the official Colorado affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, we operate with national credibility and written support from the governor’s office. Our signature programs span the entire state:
Litter Prevention & Cleanup: encourages volunteers to clean, green, and improve local communities on a large and small scale.
Education and outreach: emphasizes educating the public on litter prevention, recycling right, and the importance of beautifying communities to create a lasting, sustainable, and "beautiful" culture.
Beautification: funds support tree planting, flower planting, murals, green space installations, and various public space improvements.
Funding: offers support for local organizations doing this work across Colorado and infrastructure investments working to enhance Colorado's environment and foster civic responsibility.
Litter and neglect are not just aesthetic issues. They are cost multipliers. Colorado currently recycles and composts only about sixteen percent of its waste. Illegal dumping, encampment debris, and degraded public spaces strain municipal budgets, increase maintenance costs, and reduce the value of public infrastructure.
Colorado’s beauty is not self-sustaining. It requires protection. Colorado’s landscapes, waterways, neighborhoods, and public spaces drive tourism, economic vitality, public health, and quality of life. As the state grows, and tourism comes and goes, pressure on these systems increases. Litter, illegal dumping, encampment waste, and underperforming diversion systems create real costs for governments, businesses, and communities.
Keep Colorado Beautiful exists to reduce those costs. We are the statewide organization built to protect Colorado’s environmental and community assets through prevention, coordination, and measurable action. As the official Colorado affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, we operate with national credibility and local execution.
We are not a single program and not a one off cleanup organization. We are infrastructure.
Our mission is to empower communities across Colorado to take action through litter prevention programs, beautification programs, education and outreach programs, and a coordinated statewide support network protecting Colorado’s environmental and economic value. Our vision is a Colorado where public spaces are respected, systems function efficiently, and communities take ownership.
Keep Colorado Beautiful's core background statement is rooted in the belief that a clean and beautiful Colorado is one where every community feels pride, ownership, and opportunity.
Our work focuses on three foundational pillars:
