Strong Scholars: 2025
$600 Raised
The primary objective of the Karma Tutors Impact Fund is to provide the same academic advantage afforded by private, individualized tutoring services to students who otherwise would not have the financial means to access them.
To achieve this, KTIF provides quality, one-on-one tutoring to students based on financial need, risk factors, and commitment to their studies. Through our work, we ensure the academic "edge" that so often makes the difference in college acceptance is shared. We believe that equity in education is the most important investment we can make in safeguarding a healthy future. By lifting up a generation of scholars whose academic success will contribute to more diverse leadership, we believe we can nurture problem-solvers, improve civic engagement, cultivate respectful discourse, and foster inclusivity.
KTIF is a 501(c)(3) sister program to Karma Tutors LLC, which provides high-quality tutoring to elementary, middle- and high-school students in rural southwest Colorado. Karma Tutors donates a percentage of its net profits as well as a sizable percentage of its administrative time and resources to keep KTIF going.
The goal of the Karma Tutors Impact Fund is to change the composition of the middle class by bringing equity to education. By providing 1:1 educational support to students from vulnerable populations, we strive to increase the diversity of college-bound students in our region, promote language justice in education, and create opportunities for people of all backgrounds to give back to their community.
The Karma Tutors Impact fund was established in 2020 by two teachers in rural Colorado. These teachers had witnessed that many students needed more support to find success in their classes, something that became increasingly evident in the aftermath of Covid-19. Extra-help sessions and homework groups can only go so far; students need help from professional educators, and they benefit most from having those educators’ undivided attention.
Since its inception in 2020, KTIF has provided over $44,000 worth of free tutoring to students from financially vulnerable backgrounds—100% of which went straight to educators. That is approximately 800 hours of top-quality academic support for students who otherwise would not have had the means to access it. Last year, we expanded our tutoring program to provide ongoing support for 23 students, an almost 50% increase over the previous year. The rapidly growing number of student requests and the students we serve each year reflects our impact and the growing demand for our services.
During this time, we have provided juniors and seniors with top-quality SAT prep. We have helped students applying to colleges get the most out of their personal statements. We have connected struggling young readers with a literacy specialist and seen them advance several reading levels. We have paired students whose math education was stunted by Covid with expert tutors who have helped them raise their grades. We have helped students struggling with executive functioning skills manage their assignments and take ownership of their academics. We have helped college students questioning their academic tracks find confidence in their studies and raise their grades.
