JLF Colorado, with a mission to support and promote literature in all its forms, works to ensure equitable access to a diverse mix of world-class authors, poets, writers, artists, thinkers, filmmakers, humanitarians, politicians, business leaders, sports figures and entertainers. Our festival brings together over 50 authors and open-minded audiences to engage in thoughtful debates and dialogues, captivating hearts and minds.
Our author's expertise and passion spans topics from international, North American, and regional issues.
With each year, we craft and curate equitable platforms for dialogue, creating safe environs for writers and artists to express themselves. These fundamental precepts are vital for sustaining progressive societies, and are at the core of democracy.
Each September at the Boulder Public Library, this cultural caravan seeks to engage and challenge with riveting and insightful discussions about important topics, in one of the world’s most beautiful and inspiring locations.
Displaying a strong commitment to partnerships, together with the Boulder Public Library, and in conjunction with our supportive donors and our sponsors, JLF Colorado creates a free-to-attend festival of ideas, imagination, innovation, and inspiration for our audience and attendees.
Inspired by a visit to the Jaipur Literature Festival in Jaipur, India, JLF Colorado brought the spirit of this amazing festival to life in Boulder.
The festival proves to be a personally transformative event, opening a window to other worlds, and allowing us to appreciate and understand different cultures, histories, traditions, economies, and ways of life, pushing back against hatred, and the fear of the unknown.
The mission of JLF Colorado is to cultivate diverse literary, visual and performing arts programming and to provide equitable platforms for intercultural conversations. We are dedicated to multiculturalism and diversity in our programming and to provide equitable and free access to all.
JLF Colorado develops an annual international literature festival held in conjunction with the Boulder Public Library. In addition to our annual literature festival, JLF Colorado provides a series of free outreach workshops for schools and communities that explore arts and culture and we deliver these workshops to underserved and marginalized communities.
Access to knowledge, ideas and culture is key in bringing social change. We have evolved and progressed through shared knowledge, cultural stories and intertwined narratives.
JLF Colorado provides opportunities for listening to diverse narratives, even when those are uncomfortable, and for using our voices and self-expression as forms of agency.
JLF Colorado (JLFC) was established in 2014 as a Colorado non-profit organization and intended to capture the spirit of the world renowned Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) and to bring that spirit to Boulder, Colorado. JLFC is an autonomous 501(c)3 tax- exempt entity, which collaborates with the JLF founders, the City of Boulder and the Boulder Public Library.
Originating in Jaipur, India in 2007, the Jaipur Literature Festival is now one of the largest and one of the most renowned literature festivals in the world.
JLF Colorado attracts a broad diversity of people from many countries and states to Colorado. Our annual international literature festival is an uplifting celebration of mind and heart. Authors from the US and across the globe come to Boulder to engage in provocative conversations about life and society, economics and the arts, equity, freedom and the care of our planet.
Our goal is to expose audiences to a constant flow of ideas, stories, words and music, and to build bridges among disparate cultures. Festival sessions encourage interaction among people of all ages and walks of life. Through artistic excellence JLFC disseminates knowledge, cultivates literacy and meaningful intercultural conversations, and presents diverse viewpoints, while it uplifts and gives back to the community. These are the integral components of the Festival both in Jaipur, India and in Boulder. Colorado.
In 2015, the inaugural JLFC Festival drew an audience of 6,000 and presented 70 US and international authors and poets. Now in our tenth year, JLFC provides truly unique opportunities for cross cultural and socioeconomic dialogues for thousands of attendees. The Festival provides free event access at the Boulder Public Library, and sessions are archived online, available for viewing by anyone worldwide. JLFC is established as an annual regional, national and international literary event and has enhanced the international literary presence in Colorado.
