Ithaka Housing

A nonprofit organization

Testimonials

"They gave me the help I needed and a stable, safe environment to get my life back on track. The atmosphere of the family setting helped me bond with the house with less stress overall."

"From my first initial meeting until this moment, I can say that they saved me from the streets...from the unknown.... The amazing staff and what the transitional program has to offer...breathed new life in me...getting the opportunity to live here, to get on my feet, to benefit from their programs and live with other residents has been like winning the lottery for me!"

Mission

Our mission is to house our city's most vulnerable population. We envision a Colorado Springs where all individuals and families are housed in a supportive environment and are connected with resources to assist with their growth in the community.

Background Statement

In Greek mythology, Ithaka was seen as a home for those who are lost, for those who have been wandering, trying to find their home again. Activists from the Lutheran, Catholic, and Mennonite communities came together in 1981 to form a nonsectarian, community-based nonprofit to help address the chronic homeless situation in El Paso County, Colorado. Grounded in the belief of the dignity of every human being and the importance of developing community, the group formed Ithaka Land Trust with a mission of buying, holding, and maintaining properties on behalf of low-income individuals and families.

Ithaka has since grown to 45 permanent housing units and two transitional homes, housing those who fall through the cracks of other program eligibility guidelines. Recently released prisoners, immigrants, victims of abuse, and those recovering from addiction and mental health issues find a nurturing and supportive environment in the transitional housing programs at Ithaka.
