Background Statement
The International WeLoveU Foundation traces its roots to the early 1990s, when Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah began a grassroots effort to help those around her. That work was formalized in 2001 as the New Life Foundation, and in 2007 the organization was renamed the International WeLoveU Foundation. Since then, WeLoveU has grown into a global volunteer network active in more than 70 countries, engaging roughly 300,000 participants in education, health, environmental, and disaster-relief initiatives. The foundation achieved official NGO registration in 2016 and became formally associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications in 2018. Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah and the foundation have together received more than 400 honorary and presidential awards, including the President's Call to Service Award and the Green Apple Award for environmental practice.
