The role and mission of the institute is to conduct research related to cannabis, including clinical research, biotechnologies, clinical studies, the efficacies of medical marijuana, and economic development associated with cannabis in Colorado, and to publicly disseminate the results of the research.

Background Statement

The Institute of Cannabis Research (ICR) is Colorado’s official cannabis research entity for advancing cannabis research. We support research in the areas of clinical studies, biotechnologies, medical marijuana effectiveness, and economic impacts. Our research is rigorous and unbiased, employing a competitive funding process modeled after national best practices. Research is carried out at academic institutions, involving both faculty and students, and by qualified Colorado non-profit organizations, and collaborators worldwide. The ICR shares its research findings in peer-reviewed scientific publications, by sponsoring of the world’s leading international cannabis scientific journal, annual research conferences, monthly webinars, a newsletter, and more. The ICR is expanding the best quality, objective cannabis knowledge in Colorado and beyond.
