The Horizons Experience

The Horizons Experience is unlike any other school.  The individualized learning for each student is unmatched.  When students leave Horizons, they are equipped to challenge and change the world.  Our small class sizes, low student to adult ratios, and instructional and neurodiverse specialists allow Horizons to invest in each student on a personal level, exponentially increasing success in future pursuits.

By asking you to contribute to the Hawks Bucks campaign, we acknowledge that the Horizons Experience is worth its cost, not just to individual students and families but to the community as a whole. We understand that we are stronger together, and that by investing in our school we invest in better futures and a better world!

"We love Horizons! Because of the small class size and individualized learning, we feel like our son is receiving a private school education in a public school setting. Just in the first few months, he has learned to articulate what he needs to be successful in class." - Horizons Kindergarten Family

"Horizons is a leader in whole child development. Joy radiates from students as their strengths are engaged in meaningful ways!" - Kate, Special Education Teacher at Horizons

"I love the people, the teachers and the creative approach to learning. It feels like a big family" - Horizons 5th grade student

"What I love about Horizons is that it's a very open place and you can be yourself without anybody judging who you are." - Horizons 6th grade student, Marlena

"What I really love about Horizons is the independence you have and the school gives you so much choice." - Horizons 8th grade student, Elsa

"I went to Horizons for 9 years and now I am in high school. I was worried about grades and making new friends.  My grades are great.  Horizons taught me to ask for what I need and Horizons also taught me how to be a friend.  I have made lots of new friends". - Former Horizons student, Oliver (9th grader at Centaurus)

"Everyone feels like they belong here." - Horizons 2nd grade and Kindergarten parent and paraeducator

Background Statement

Horizons K-8 School is a public charter school located within the Boulder Valley School District. Our charter school is publicly funded and was established by teachers, parents, and community members in May of 1996 after a five year tenure as a focus school of the Boulder Valley School District. The charter was granted a five year renewal in 2020. In 2012, Horizons K-8 underwent a significant remodeling and addition due to being awarded a BEST (Building Excellent Schools Today) Grant from the State of Colorado. In 2013, Horizons K-8 was established as an independent 501(c)(3) and initiated the Horizons Board to support the overall financial and governance operations of the school. Enrollment at Horizons K-8 occurs through the BVSD Open Enrollment process.
