Just as bees work together in every effort for the greater good of the entire hive, The Hive operates in the same manner for our community. We are committed to creating a space that inspires individuals to better their own lives and the health of the community, especially in regards to sobriety, mental health and wellness.

The Hive accomplishes this through providing a youth dedicated space with facilitated programs in a creatively immersive environment. Located in downtown Durango, we have  an indoor skatepark youth center offering after school programs and a safe space for participants to just hang.

The Hive also takes great pride in hosting the SOS Outreach program in Durango every winter season. Our journey begins with the goal of providing meaningful outdoor experiences where we introduce young individuals to the world of snowboarding at Purgatory Resort. As they conquer the slopes, our young participants find the courage to step outside their comfort zones, unearth hidden strengths, and develop lifelong skills. Through our time-tested core values curriculum, we empower the young members of our communities to discover their true potential. The Hive's core values include courage, integrity, discipline, wisdom, compassion, humility, patience, and responsibility. These values serve as our daily guiding principles throughout our transformative program offerings.

One of our amazing youth participants was chosen as a spokesperson for a statewide

Colorado campaign for Forward Together.

We are so proud of Marion for sharing her vulnerable story!

Donations of over $200 may qualify for a tax credit of 25% of the total amount of the donation through the State of Colorado Enterprise Zone. This is in addition to the charitable deduction allowable by the IRS.

Mission

To provide an inclusive, brave space for youth and community members to develop and discover their true selves by providing passion-based exploration through creative expression, mentorship and leadership opportunities.

Background Statement

The Hive DGO was formed in July 2019 as the collaborative effort of Kelsie Borland, Alex Vick and Jeff Hamner. As longtime youth advocates and activists in Southwest Colorado, these three came together through their shared passion for engaging youth authentically and helping them actively manifest their dreams.

The catalyst: an alarming and increasing trend of suicides in Colorado, social isolation, loneliness, addiction to substances and poor social emotional wellness outcomes.

The dream: a full-time, year-round youth-centered community hub offering programming focused on creative expression, passion pursuit, leadership development, and supportive pro-social relationships through skateboarding, music, art, and beyond. By providing an opportunity to engage with unique programs and adult mentors, youth can find a sense of belonging, accomplishment and worth at The Hive!
