Background Statement
The Stanley Home Museum and Education Center preserves and interprets the legacy of F.O. and Flora Stanley, visionary early residents of Estes Park and influential figures in Colorado’s cultural and economic development. Built in 1904, the Stanley family home offers a rare glimpse into the domestic life of one of the region’s most innovative couples.
F.O. Stanley, inventor and entrepreneur best known for the Stanley Steamer automobile and the founding of the Stanley Hotel, and his wife Flora, a talented musician and community leader, helped shape the character and creativity of Estes Park. Their home reflects their values of craftsmanship, hospitality, and forward thinking.
Founded as the Historic Stanley Home Foundation on October 20, 2016, the Home was purchased in 2020 and hosted its first docent-led interpretive tour in 2021. Today, the museum serves as a place for learning, preservation, and inspiration, offering tours, educational programs, and community events that connect the past with the present. Through ongoing preservation and interpretation, the Stanley Home ensures its legacy continues to educate and inspire future generations.
