Background Statement
Founded in 2018 from the roots of other organizations, Vuela seeks to unite and engage Latino communities through education, collaboration, and leadership development; and to improve the physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being of participants and their families.
Prior to its inception, Executive Director Diana Pineda, and her team of Promotoras (community health workers) had worked together for over 15 years to educate Latino families on a variety of health issues.
Vuela’s programming focuses on three key areas: Physical Wellness, Mental Health Wellness, and Leadership Development.
We are proud of our accomplishments, and provide below some results from our 2022 programs:
• Administered over 1,700 COVID-19 vaccinations and 575 flu shots, to people of color in in partnership with local churches, the Mexican Consulate, Colorado Department of Health and Environment, and the Colorado Association of Hispanic Nurses.
• Assisted 1,500 individuals and family to enroll in affordable healthcare coverage. We continue to walk alongside them helping them to navigate how to sue the healthcare system.
• Graduated more than 650 participants from our CHARLAR (heart health) and Diabetes Prevention programs.
• 250 parents and youth learned how to improve communications and create supportive family environments.
• 255 parents and community leaders were certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid, a program designed to support youth who are experiencing a mental health or addiction challenge.
• Assisted 190 Latinas in receiving valuable breast and cervical cancer screenings.
• Helped 450 Latinas learn how to cook healthier options of the family’s favorite meals and how to shop for healthy foods even if on a budget.
• Graduated over 35 Latinas who became either Embajadoras or Promotoras allowing them financial independence.
Through Vuela for Health, our Promotoras have not only become leaders in their community but through steady and meaningful employment, they have seized the opportunity to lead their families to better housing, healthier foods, and most importantly, financial security
