Testimonials

HearthFire Keep has given me my absolute best friend and the best boy Ramsey formerly Ninja. Amy rescued my boy back from a barn where he wasn't fed and taken care properly. I saw him thru pictures and very good accurate descriptions from Amy and some close friends of hers. She delivered him to me at no cost and let me spend time with him for a free trial period of 30 days. No pressure on her part. She just wanted him to find the best home possible. It only took two weeks and this sweet boy became my forever babe. If you ever want to find a friend to match your personality and have a friend for life, visit Amy at HearthFire Keep you will be matched and find that bond with one of her wonderful family of animals. Forever grateful, Kerstin P

As HearthFire Keep's Facebook says it's "a safe place to heal your heart" and I have witnessed that in many ways over the years of being a supporter. I have seen horses who have come from a variety of unfortunate circumstances, who have absolutely no reason to trust any human who walks this earth, be given the time they need to decompress after arriving at HearthFire, and after they've realized there is no other shoe that will drop... they are safe, they are loved, they are allowed to simply be themselves... and they have come around to people again. Some more so than others, but all of them in a better place physically, but just as important, mentally than when they arrived. I have also felt it myself... there is something about entering through the gates and seeing animals of all kinds, many of whom were cast aside by others for not being perfect in whatever way, and to see them thriving, happy, content, free from fear... you can't help but feel that yourself. It is a place devoid of judgement, and overflowing with true empathetic love.

I have been a regular patron of Amy Vyskocil and HearthFire Keep for many years now and just recently adopted my first horse from her program. Amy has the most tender, caring heart of anyone I know and for her it is all about the animals. She sees potential even in worst-case scenarios and cares for animals who others have pushed aside or abandoned. She has helped so many find their forever homes yet doesn't think twice about caring for animals who will live out their lives at the sanctuary due to special needs. HearthFire is truly an amazing animal sanctuary and well worthy of regular patrons and community grants.

Background Statement

HearthFire Keep/Happy Haven Farm & Sanctuary was formed by our Founder and President Amy Vyskocil in 2009 after a devastating home fire took the lives of her furry family. While searching for one cat they thought may have escaped, she was exposed to the number of animals that are euthanized on a daily basis for medical issues, age, or difficulty to adjust to shelter life and it broke her heart. From the broken pieces, HHFS was formed. In the past, HHFS has also done Animal Centered Healing for strugging individuals on a case by case basis, giving them time to interact with the animals in any way they need to find healing and growth. We have also conducted beginner rider kids club classes for area residents, however over the past few years, our focus has been on the sanctuary side.

In 2023, we decided it was time to go back to our roots and to the dream Amy originally had - a program to teach children core values like kindness, compassion, honor, courage, loyalty, wisdom, truthfulness and respect through an innovative Knight's program. This program is still in developement, but will incorporate the sanctuary animals living at HearthFire Keep.
