Mission

Heart Mind Haven (HMH) is a Colorado based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering our LGBTQIA+ Community by providing critically needed supportive recovery and wellness services. This includes affordable housing and bed scholarships to individuals who are our most vulnerable and underserved community members. A significant percentage of those individuals that stay at Heart Mind Haven are homeless or are post-hospital discharges.

The LGBTQIA+ community has historically been discriminated against and confronted with severe health inequities in the areas of behavioral health services, and affordable housing and healthcare. HMH offers unique and customized programs centered in human connection that specifically address the unique needs of the queer community and provides confidence and compassionate spirit to transgender young adults. HMH advances health equity in multiple areas for these individuals by building systems of recovery that address the unmet needs of our LGBTQIA+ community members to address the underlying causes of suicide, substance use and addiction for this most vulnerable population.

Background Statement

1 out of 4 people in the LGBTQIA+ community have mental health and substance use disorders that are persistent and pervasive.

Heart Mind Haven is a “stand alone, one of a kind” recovery home in Colorado. We are all genders, exclusively LGBTQIA+, with queer staff and weekly community programming. Heart Mind Haven’s paramount recovery success rates are rooted in our unique heart-centered connection model.

The unique needs of this community are increased societal and familial trauma and HMH offers to fill this void and increase stability and provide continuity of care upon discharge from hospitalizations. HMH’s mission and vision is parallel to that of Signal Behavioral Health to extend health equity across Colorado to vulnerable and underserved people. In addition to affordable housing, HMH provides educational programs that supports and provides services that promote wellness and transitional living for those struggling with addiction, mental illness with the objective of re-establishing the vital human connection and maintain recovery.

HMH sees the person first, before their mental illness, addictions and builds systems of value-based personalized engagement through our unique heart-based approach of service delivery centered on human connectivity, respect, and empathetic approaches to improve conditions that promote healthy client outcomes. Through our community-based volunteers and programs with professional partners, we shall end the destructive cycle of isolation and present opportunities to re-engage with the community along with vital social activity programs.
