OUR WHY
Teaching people to regulate their emotions is:
Crime prevention.
It's addiction prevention.
It's suicide prevention.
It's generational healing.
It is how we stop raising adults who explode, implode or shut down at the first sign of discomfort.
Emotional regulation is not just a soft skill. It is survival.
It's the foundation of a society where people can disagree without dehumanizing each other, where accountability isn't seen as an attack, and where conflict doesn't always have to mean violence.
You want a better world? Start with Mental Fitness.
WHAT IS MENTAL FITNESS?
Mental Fitness is the purposeful practice of taking care of our mind. Through this, we gain the tools and skills to cope with everyday stressors, creating the resilience to thrive.
We focus on the four quarters of Mental Fitness; social, emotional, physical, financial.
ABOUT HQ
Founded in 2016, HeadQuarters works to prevent crises by engaging, educating, and empowering community members to develop skills and access tools for Mental Fitness—the practice of caring for one’s mind to build resilience and thrive. Our mission is to connect people with the right support at the right time.
We provide therapy assistance through the Mental Health Fund for those who can’t afford it, offering free or low-cost therapy to residents across the Roaring Fork Valley. Our sliding-scale Mental Fitness Coaching, free workshops, and peer-support groups have served people of varying background including parents, educators, first responders, and members of the LGBTQ+ and Latinx communities.
Research shows that preventive mental health programs can reduce crises by up to 50%, increase emotional resilience by 30%, and decrease stress-related health issues by 20%. Yet crisis intervention receives 14 times more funding than prevention—a costly and unsustainable imbalance. Waiting until someone is in crisis leads to far higher emotional, social, and financial costs for our community.
At HeadQuarters, we believe prevention is powerful. By investing in Mental Fitness, we can strengthen individual well-being, reduce crisis dependency, and build a healthier, more connected community—one where support begins long before crisis.

HeadQuarters engages, educates, and empowers Mental Fitness paving the way for a healthy, vibrant community.
Mental Fitness is the purposeful practice of taking care of our mind. Through this, we gain the tools and skills to cope with everyday stressors, creating the resilience to thrive. We focus on the four quarters of Mental Fitness; social, emotional, physical, financial.
HeadQuarters was founded in response to our valley's high suicide rate, aiming to guide individuals to the right support at the right time while removing barriers to access. Mental illness and substance abuse are among the top health concerns in our community, and HeadQuarters addresses these issues by connecting people with early-intervention tools and resources. Through diverse support methods and financial assistance, we empower individuals to build knowledge, develop resilience, and foster a sense of belonging.
