Haven Ridge (formerly Mother House)

A nonprofit organization

Mother House helps those who identify as women, transgender, or nonbinary, and their children. We work to ignite the fire of confidence and the belief in the dignity and worth of all human beings for all who walk through our doors. At Mother House, we don't shelter people - we strengthen them.

Testimonials

"Thank you so much for everything, without you I wouldn't have a chance at keeping my baby and I know I'd be using again. Because of Mother House I know I have a chance at having everything be ok. I don't know what I would do without you."
- Camila, Former Resident

"Mother House took me when no else would, without them I would've had a baby in a a halfway house and I would've lost her right away."
- Jessica, Former Resident

"When Mother House took me I had lost my baby in the hospital - I couldn't go to a regular adult shelter because then I'd never get her back, and I couldn't get into a family shelter because I didn't have custody of her. Mother House let me stay while I worked to get her, and now we're together again."
- Sierra, Former Resident

"I left my husband when I was 6 months pregnant because I knew my baby wouldn't be safe. Mother House helped me to rebuild and worked with me to develop the skills I needed to go back to work and manage a budget."
-Joy, Former Resident

Mission

Haven Ridge helps unhoused and at-risk women and transgender individuals and their children. We provide spaces of safety, respect, and kindness to all we meet, and we work to ignite the fire of confidence for all who walk through our doors.

At Haven Ridge, we don’t shelter people - we strengthen them.

Background Statement

Started in 1982, Haven Ridge began with our Mother House program, which has provided at-risk mothers and their babies with a nurturing, supportive, and empowering residential community for over 40 years. In 2020 we expanded our work to include The Lodge, a navigation shelter and transitional housing community for unhoused adult women and transgender individuals.

The Mother House program was created almost 40 years ago by a group of local mothers who decided to take action to help the pregnant homeless folks who they saw every day in their community. Initially they invited those who were pregnant and in need into their homes, then Mother House located its first sources of funding and established a house and began offering more formalized supportive services. Today, thanks to ongoing community support, Mother House continues to be a place where mothers and their babies thrive. Mother House helps mothers in crisis and their babies receive the care, support, and resources they need to navigate pregnancy and motherhood.

In 2018 Mother House welcomed a new Executive Director as part of a strategy to improve and increase servicing. In the 2.5 years since, Mother House has expanded our mission, our services, and our mandate to both include new populations and to recognize the populations we have already been serving but have not been adequately acknowledging. In 2019 we began running an annual pop-up shop event that allows families across the region to shop for free for clothes, baby gear, diapers, formula, and toys. We have also been doing a great deal of work to improve and tailor services to our LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and immigrant populations. In response to the needs of these most vulnerable homeless populations we are offering a new shelter, The Lodge, for those who do not have a safe place to go at night and don't fit in a men's shelter.
